FYLPRO celebrates national holiday encouraging voter registration for the 2020 Elections

September 21, 2020  – On September 22, 2020, thousands of national, state, and local organizations and volunteers will be celebrating National Voter Registration Day 2020,  a massive cross-country effort to register voters well in advance of Election Day this November. The Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) is proud to join this movement as an official partner.

In 2018, voter turnout increased among non-Hispanic Asians by 13 percentage points, a 49 percent increase. This year, more than 11 million Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPI) will be able to vote, making up nearly 5% of the nation’s eligible voters. Unfortunately, one of the biggest barriers to AAPI civic participation is voter registration.

“This National Voter Registration Day, we’re doing our part to get eligible voters registered,” said FYLPRO President and Pulaski County Election Commissioner Joshua Ang Price. “No person should be denied their right to vote due to barriers they may experience with registration or any other aspect of the voting process. We hope that this special day dedicated to answering questions related to voter registration and supporting community members to register to vote will help get them to the polls.”

According to the 2020 Asian American Voter Survey, Filipino Americans in particular are the most enthusiastic about voting in the upcoming election compared to other Asian American groups.

“Getting enthusiastic and registered to vote is step one in making a plan to vote. On National Voter Registration Day we’re encouraging voters to solidify their voting plans and to support their friends, families, and community who may not already be familiar with the process.” says FYLPRO Board Member and NaFFAA Fil-Am Vote Manager, Krystle Canare.

On September 22, FYLPRO will encourage eligible voters from across the country to register to vote at the following virtual events:

Nearly 3 million Americans have registered to vote on the holiday since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day in 2012.
