CHICAGO, IL — With Filipino Americans covering a large share of healthcare workers in the United States, the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) and Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) are inviting the public to “Treat our front liners and their families to a live performance and movie,” on October 3, 2020.

FYLPRO and APUC will be screening “Edward,” directed by Thop Nazareno. “Edward” is billed as a coming of age story of a young boy stuck in a public hospital with no one else to take care of his ailing father. Caught in a place where life itself is in limbo, the boy’s careless attitude reaches a screening halt when he experiences a bittersweet incident that pushes his life into transition and will make him a man amidst chaos and heartbreaking loss.

The screening will also include a program of a live performance featuring Filipino award winning singer and actor Nar Cabico also known as Boy Rose.

“With the pandemic putting FYLPRO’s 5th year anniversary plans to a pause, we are now gearing up to celebrate in 2021 with an exciting lineup of events alongside strategic improvements in the organization to serve the community better. This drive-in screening of Edward will help us reach these goals for next year and we are very thankful for the support of our partners, Asian Pop-Up Cinema, Davis Theater and Double Good; our sponsors and most importantly, everyone coming out to watch the movie on October 3,” said FYLPRO Vice President Louella Cabalona.

This is the second year FYLPRO has teamed up with the local Film Festival, Asian Pop-Up Cinema to bring Filipino movies to mainstream audiences in Chicago.

“And what goes well with a movie? This year, we are also teaming up with DoubleGood to offer our viewers and our friends a chance to purchase popcorn in a variety of delicious flavors” said Lakhi Siap, FYLPRO Board Member and one of the Project Leads of this fundraiser adding, “Fifty percent of all purchases through the Edward Popcorn Store will also go to FYLPRO’s projects and advocacies.”

“Edward” is showing on October 3 at 7:30 p.m., at the Davis Theater at the Lincoln Yards Mall lot at 1684 N Throop Street in Chicago, Illinois.

Tickets are at $150 per car, with a cap of 6 people pursuant to current Chicago reopening mandates.
