Upon graduation from St. Norbert College\, she attended The John Marshall Law School. She obtained her license to practice law in Illinois in 1998.   \nAnjana began her legal career with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where she had the opportunity to be in several different divisions in criminal and in the civil division. From 2005-2009\, Anjana was elected as the first Asian American Alderman for the City of Evanston’s 9th Ward. After 12 years\, Anjana left the State’s Attorney’s Office to begin her own general practice of law. After 4 years in private practice\, Anjana was elected to the Circuit Court in Cook County in 2014. She was retained in 2020 and presides in District 2\, Skokie. She has been an instructor for the Evanston Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy. Volunteering in the community is also a family affair as Anjana\, along with her family\, delivers meals for Meals on Wheels as well as provides meals for the homeless through Connections for the Homeless. Anjana also has spread her love of public service and civic involvement as a guest at various area elementary and high schools. She continues to live in the north suburbs\, where she is raising her 3 children with her husband.   \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nKathy Vega Hardy\n\nKathy Vega Hardy was born in Quezon City\, Metro Manila\, Philippines. She was an accountant turned cook and started A Taste of the Philippines food truck in Denver in 2012. She gained popularity throughout the state and also competed 3 times in Food Network’s hit shows Cutthroat Kitchen (twice) and CHOPPED. She moved the business to Chicago in 2018 where she caters via corporate events and serves as a vendor at Daley Plaza City Markets. She’s also known for catering kamayan feasts. In the midst of the pandemic (July 2020)\, Vega Hardy opened a small restaurant inside the Chicago French Market. She recently celebrated 10 years in business. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nMaria Odiamar Racho \nMaria Odiamar Racho is Co-founder and Managing Partner of FilKor Capital\, a venture capital firm with a mission to empower resilient Asian Americans to build enduring companies. FilKor Capital was one of 2500 applicants to the VC Lab accelerator\, and graduated in the top 10 of the cohort.  \nMaria is also Organizational Effectiveness Senior Manager at Allstate Corporation where she co-found two employee resource groups\, Allstate Asian American Network (3AN) and the Intrapreneurs@Allstate (i@a). i@a started with five founders\, has grown to over 700\, and has become the corporation’s internal incubator running shark tanks and startup challenges.  \nMaria completed an Executive Master of Science in Organization Development at Pepperdine University where she is adjunct faculty. She is also a published researcher and speaker on Asian American leadership. Maria currently serves on the board of the Organization Development Network – Chicago (ODNC)\, and is a startup mentor at the Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA). In 2020\, her leadership with an Asian American Small Business COVID-19 Relief Task Force helped catalyze the opening of an Illinois Small Business Development Center for the AAPI community.  \nMaria is married to her childhood sweetheart with two kids and an extended family the size of a small village. \n  \n  \n \n  \nMichi Trota \nMichi Trota is a Chicago-based Filipina American writer/editor\, communications & content development manager\, community organizer\, and firespinning geek. Michi is a five-time Hugo Award winner\, British Fantasy Award winner\, and the first Filipina to win a Hugo Award. She’s Editor-in-Chief of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) and co-editor of the WisCon Chronicles Vol. 12 (Aqueduct Press) with Isabel Schechter. She’s the Senior Editor of Prism and was the first Managing Editor/Nonfiction Editor of the Hugo Award-winning and World Fantasy Award finalist Uncanny: A Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy (2014-2019). She’s a past president of the Chicago Nerd Social Club Board of Organizers and a resident fire performer/object manipulation artist with the Raks Geek performance troupe. She loves Chicago and while she complains bitterly about the weather\, she wouldn’t call any other city in the world home (well\, except for maybe a tropical island in the Caribbean\, but only for part of the year).\n\nDiscussions about geek culture\, feminism\, and food are guaranteed to get Michi talking for hours. She’s organized discussions and participated as a panelist at events such as the Chicago Humanities Festival\, Chicago Wizard World\, C2E2\, and WisCon\, been a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago and DePaul University\, and has appeared in Bitch Media and on NPR.\n\nMichi is also both a gourmet cook and a gourmand: she eats like a hobbit\, loves food\, and will geek out about it at the slightest provocation. In fact\, she’s been told more than once that if she had a mutant superpower\, it would be making people hungry just by talking about food. Especially if it has to do with chocolate or bacon. But mostly bacon. And Google tools provide valuable\, inventive and often unexpected ways for journalists to access and process information for the betterment of their stories and the benefit of their readers. SPJ and the Google News Initiative teamed up in 2015 to provide free training to journalists around the U.S. looking to apply these tools in their news gathering\, reporting and storytelling. The programs are provided by talented\, personable\, knowledgeable SPJ members who have been trained by the Google News Initiative. But this training will be tailored to a more mainstream non-journalist audience. Google tools are useful regardless if you are a journalist or not and it can level up your search/research skills. In this session\, we’ll cover the tools and techniques that will make you feel like a spy on the internet – from finding hidden documents\, piecing together information to verifying images and getting context behind them. Attendees will come away with more than just an understanding of how to sleuth the internet like a spy or investigative reporter\, they will also become familiar with the overall ethos of finding information on the web. Trainer Frank Bi (@frankiebi) is an editorial engineer at SB Nation where he works on the storytelling team designing and developing interactives and longform features. He lives in New York City.

They have integrated FYLPRO in a lot of activities throughout the Filipino American community\, different partners\, and have expanded our network and reach. Mabuhay to all.\n–Anthony Guevara\n \nLouella has an incredible love for the Philippines and Philippine people that overflows and inspires. She has a vision of our potential and works to make it a reality. In the short time that I’ve known her so far\, she’s already made such a positive impact on me and I’m grateful that I’ll now know her for the rest of my life. She took time to really get to know me and value me\, from meeting me in Chicago last-minute to continuing with our weekly check-ins even when it was just me. And she did that despite having a million other things on her plate\, which I didn’t even realize at the time. Even more than that\, she takes that time to empower and believe. As excited as I was to volunteer\, I was also still incredibly nervous. I didn’t want to disappoint anyone or feel rejected in this space\, but still raised my hand after my first meeting to help with the 9th anniversary! And I could do that because of the space Louella created\, where she welcomed and embraced. Louella is truly outstanding and deserves not just this recognition\, but all the best things in the world.\n-Sabrina Alexis D. Tanglao\n \nContinues to lead our Tayo fellows as our fellowship director. Under her leadership we brought on another class of fellows this summer who were integral to our major multimedia initiatives – culturally tailored webinars\, viral dance video and our PSA. It’s not an easy time to be a young college student/grad given the COVID world we live in but under Krystle’s leadership\, our fellows were given a safe space that’s not always available and be part of a community that continues to serve each other.\n\n\n-Leezel G. She also was the (co)author of 3 big resolutions that eventually became bylaws amendments. Last year\, she was contributing immensely to 2 important projects in 2020: Strategic Planning and Covid Task Force. \nDid you know that up to this day\, Kit is still paying for some of our website domain renewals out of her love for FYLPRO? \nIt’s no exaggeration when I say\, I wouldn’t know where FYLPRO would be if not for Kit. \n   -Louella Rose Cabalona \n  \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n \nMelissa Palma \nNominated by: Leezel G. It is evident that she lives and breathes the very essence of how it is to be a member of FYLPRO. She is longing to further learn\, feel\, love and experience love of country. She has this to say upon being elected to the BOD; “I think it’s been easy for me to feel very alone in my experience and this sense of longing I couldn’t explain…..And actually like there’s an incredibly exciting journey and experience coming my way”. This is a passion that a lot of us have. The passion that we prioritize less as we live our busy lives. It is incredibly exciting to rekindle this passion by being surrounded by someone like Sabrina. This love for country is a calling many of us has answered and has been recognized as an Alumni. She and husband Robbie were the first people to offcially become “members” as soon as we opened membership up to the public AND they drove 4 hours on Jan 6 just to hang out with us during the MOU Signing in Washington DC.
