DESCRIPTION:HOLOHOLO: FYLPRO BOD Retreat Hawaii \n \nThe Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) executive committee and members of its board of directors met with several local Hawaii leaders as part of its mid-year board retreat and alumni town hall last month. The trip was patterned after FYLPRO’s core immersion program that included meet and greets with local officials\, businesses and organizations of interest to Filipino American community. \nLed by President Louella Cabalona\, the Hawaii excursion began on the island of Oahu where Cabalona along with board members Jan Paul Ferrer and Lakhi Siap and Hawaii-based board members Sergio Alcubilla III\, and alumni Kit Furukawa and Elizabeth Obod-Frilles paid a courtesy call to the Philippine Consulate General of Honolulu Joselito A. Jimeno. The group also visited the Hawaii State Capitol where they met with Sen. Ty Cullen\, a FYLPRO delegate in 2015\, Hawaii State Sen. Henry Aquino and Sen. Benette Misalucha. \nIn addition\, the group discussed encouraging civic engagement among Filipino Americans with the youngest councilmember in Honolulu\, Bryan Elefante and Radiant Cordero \nCabalona was also interviewed on KITV’s Good Morning Hawaii where she shared FYLPRO’s core immersion program and other initiatives of the organization. \nThe Oahu leg culminated with an alumni party hosted by 2018 delegate Lt. Col Char McGinnis. \nOn the second leg of the trip which took place in Maui\, the remaining members of FYLPRO’s executive committee\, Vice President Leezel Tanglao\, Secretary Jean Gavina and Treasurer Fred Docdocil arrived to meet with other board members including Michael A. Dahilig who is the Managing Director for the County of Kaua’i. During this portion of the trip\, the group met with the Mayor of Maui Mike Victorino and members of the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce. \nAt the alumni town hall held on June 24\, FYLPRO leadership laid out the agenda and events for the rest of 2021. It served as a general membership meeting in which included ratifying resolutions to officially allow non alumni to run for board positions and lead committee.
